Download telemetry data from rFactor 2

Hi! My name is Abel Caro and I am going to teach you how to download your telemetry data of rFactor 2.

Download and install MoTeC

To get the telemetry data with rFactor you will need to install MoTeC. So you can download it here.

Choose an option according to your Windows version:

Once you have downloaded that file, open it and install MoTeC as any other software.

MoTeC plugin for rFactor 2

Now it’s time to install «MotecPlugin», the MoTeC plugin with which you will connect it to your rFactor 2 simulator.

The first thing will be to download it from here thanks to the people of simracinghub.com. You will get that file called «rF2_MotecPlugin_28Jun2014.rar». Unzip it (right click -> «Extract here») and you will see that there are two others files: the «Plugins» folder and «MotecPlugin_Readme.txt». In this case, what interests us is the folder.

When you open it you will see that there is a folder called «MotecPlugin» and two files, «MotecPLugin.dll» and «MotecPlugin_x64.dll».

In case you launch the 64-bit (x64) mode of rFactor 2, you should copy the «MotecPlugin» folder and the «MotecPLugin_x64.dll» file to «rFactor 2/Bin64/ Plugins». That rFactor 2 folder will be under «Steam/SteamApps/common».

In case you launch the 32-bit mode of rFactor 2, you should copy the «MotecPlugin» folder and the «MotecPLugin.dll» file to «rFactor 2/Bin32/ Plugins». That rFactor 2 folder will be under «Steam/SteamApps/common».

If you are not sure which mode you launch, you can do both.

Telemetry files in rFactor 2

When you go to the track for the first time after having followed the previous steps, a folder called «LOG» will be automatically created inside the rFactor 2 folder (in «Steam/SteamApps/common»), where the data files will be saved, and a file called «MotecPlugin.ini», which is where you can change the data acquisition options.

The usual optimal options are those that come by default. So, you shouldn’t touch anything else.

Export files to «.csv» with MoTeC

The data files that are saved in the LOG folder have a «.ld» extension. If you don’t see the extension, you can do it by activating the option «File name extensions» from the «View» tab, although it is not necessary. Here you got Spanish example:

These files can be opened with MoTeC. When opening it, go to the «File» tab and «Export Data …»:

In the window that opens, you can choose the format to be «.csv». Select these options:

  • Data Extent: Entire Outing
  • Output File Format: CSV File
  • Output Sample Rate: Auto
  • Include Time Stamp: Checked
  • Include Distance Data: Checked

When you have it, click «Export» and you will have your «.csv» files. Ready for us to take advantage of its full potential from Lebalap!
